Mon., 27th Apr., 2015
I had a yoga class. The school is closed next week, so I took my yoga book home.

Tue., 28th Apr.
I brewed some coffee with a French press. It was so strong that I couldn’t sleep well.

Wed., 29th Apr.
I was sick in bed all day, but managed to listen to Radio Eikaiwa.

Thu., 30th Apr.
I made some stuffed peppers and tomatoes. I forgot to get eggplants.

Jaimie’s Blog –

Next month(May 10th) is Kensington’s 1st birthday!

She is still a baby, but thanks to all of the care and attention she’s been getting growing up fast!

Since we are on the topic of babies here is one  mistake that people often make when talking about children and a few child idioms that are commonly used.

Let’s start with a mistake that I often hear.

Grow vs. raise.

Growing children is a tough job with no holidays. X

Raising children is a tough job with no holidays. O

We use grow to talk about things like plants or vegetables in the garden or the fact that children are getting bigger, but we don’t physically grow children ourselves, it just happens naturally.

Japanese companies have succeeded in growing square watermelons in order to make stacking them easier. O

I can’t believe how big your kids are getting, they are growing so fast! O

Next, a few idioms.

Be left holding the baby (To be left in charge or responsible for something due to another’s sudden absence)

The boss took the day off with the flu and it was Andy’s day off so I was suddenly left holding the baby.

Like taking candy from a baby (Simple/Easy)

Learning to drive may seem difficult, but really it’s like taking candy from a baby.

Cry like a baby (cry uncontrollably)

I don’t usually get that emotional, but the end of that film always makes me cry like a baby.

Sleep like a baby (sleep well)

I was so tired last night after work. I went straight to bed and slept like a baby all night.

A cry baby (someone who cries or complains too much or easily)

Don’t be such a cry baby, you only grazed your knee.

Wet the baby’s head (Celebrate the birth of a baby by drinking alcohol)

After visiting my wife in hospital I went straight to the pub to wet the baby’s head.

Hope they come in useful.

See you at the next lesson .

Let’s hope Kensington grows up big and strong.

Tim’s Blog – Beer!!

The weather is getting warmer every day and for all us beer lovers that means one thing. Beer tastes BETTER!!!! Here are some important guidelines on how to enjoy a delightful glass of beer.

    1)   Pour the beer with extra care

When pouring beer into a glass, you should take care to create fine foam in order to maintain excellent taste.

 i) Put the glass on the table and pour beer in the middle of the glass from a relatively high position. When the foam has filled around a third of the glass, stop pouring for the moment.

ii) Tilt the glass so as to keep the opening of the can at the glass edge and slowly pour the beer so that it flows into beneath the foam.

iii) Gradually return the glass to the upright position and pour the beer in such a way that the foam rises.

iv) When the glass has been 80% filled, put the glass on the table and make adjustments so that the foam occupies 20-30% of the glass.

    2)   Keep the glass clean

If beer is poured into an unclean glass the aroma and flavour are compromised. Wash the glass well and leave it to dry naturally

    3)    Keep the beer moderately chilled

The ideal temperature for beer is 6-8 degrees. Chill the glass as well, and you will enjoy the beer all the better.

    4)    Drink the beer while it’s fresh

The freshness of beer is gradually lost as time passes. It is desirable to drink beer as early as possible within the best-by period.
