Hi everyone. Today I’m going to show you some of the things you may need to know in the unfortunate event of becoming sick while on holiday. In the U.K we don’t really have so many specialised clinics like you do here in Japan so everyone just goes to the local G.P (general practitioner) when they have a common illness or complaint.

We always have to make an appointment ( you may be kept waiting for some time though so please don’t be surprised) and the same as in Japan, you will be asked some general questions about your health, allergies, and medicine you are taking.

Here are some of the basic things you will need to know when visiting the doctor overseas.

Are you taking any medicine now?　今、何か薬を飲んでいますか。
Yes, I’m taking sleeping pills.　はい、睡眠薬を飲んでいます。
Do you have any allergies?　何かアレルギーはありますか。
Yes, I’m allergic to nuts.　はい、ナッツのアレルギーです。
Do you have any serious illnesses?　何か重い病気にかかっていますか。

I see. Have you had chills?　分かりました、寒気はありますか。
No, I haven’t.　いいえ、ありません。
You have the flu. I will prescribe you some medicine.　インフルのようですね。薬を処方します。
You should take this twice a day.　これを一日に二回飲むとよいでしょう。
You should rest for a few days.　数日ゆっくりするとよいでしょう。
You shouldn’t go to work.　仕事には行かないほうがよいでしょう。
You shouldn’t drink alcohol.　お酒は控えたほうがよいでしょう。
You should finish all the medicine.　薬はすべて飲み終えたほうがよいでしょう。
