How to study English – Read

We’ve touched this subject a number of times before. Reading is quite an essential activity because it’s the best way to be exposed to a rich and wide vocabulary.

Remember that you can read whatever you want! You could read literature books, but if that’s not your cup of tea, you could read a comic book or a magazine. You can buy a cook book and read that, or read a children’s book to your kids. There are thousands of articles online, news websites, English study websites that Jaimie and I recommend to you on this blog ever so often. The options are endless, so find something that you like, and read it.

Reading is an easy, fun and relaxing way to boost your language skills. Plus, you will be learning about other things as well: It’s a win win situation and as you may know, in Kensington we love win win situations!

このお題については何度も触れていますが、リーディングは極めて必要なものです。なぜなら豊富で幅広い語彙を習得できる一番の方法だからです。

あなたが読みたいものはなんでも読めると覚えていてくださいね。文学も読めるでしょう。でも、もしそれがあなたの好みでなければ、マンガや雑誌でもいいです。料理本を買って読んだり、子供向けの本をお子さまに読んであげるのもいいです。インターネットには膨大な数の記事やニュース、ウェブサイトがありますし、英語を勉強するにはJaimieと私はこのブログを何度もおすすめしています。

リーディングはあなたの言語力を上げるのには簡単で楽しくてリラックスできる方法です。加えて、他の事も同時に学んでいくでしょう。これはウィンウィンですよね。皆さんご存知かと思いますが、ケンジントンはウィンウィンの状態が大好きです！

Travel English – Meeting people at a hotel

Hello everyone, Last month, I prepared a class for you called Meeting people. The purpose of the class was to practice meeting people in English in various situations. One of them was meeting someone at the hotel and to recap, these were some good expressions to use.

Where are you from?

Oh, I’ve never been there. What’s it like? Ah, I’ve been there. I went there a couple of years ago. It was really nice!

Is it your first time in Japan?

How long have you been here?

How long are you going to stay?

Where are you travelling after Fukuoka?

Are you travelling alone?

How do you like it so far?

Hello everyone!

As you probably know by now (since I probably repeat it every time I see you), I love summer!
Here are some small expressions that we can use in the summer in Japan.

Are you going to the firework display in Ohori park?
Are you going back to your hometown in Obon?
It’s boiling today, isn’t it?

and these are some seasonal expressions that you can use

cicadas chirp

go on a trip

今週末のレッスン内容 – Weekly shopping

Hello everyone, it’s me, Jaimie, from Scotland!

When I’m not busy teaching and preparing classes, I love to go to the supermarket. This week I’ve prepared some classes about our weekly shopping.

In them we’ll talk about where you do your shopping and what kind of things you buy every week. We’ll use countable and uncountable nouns. We’ll use “some, any, a lot, many, not many not, much, and none”. Finally we’ll talk about the different sections of a supermarket.

今週末のレッスン内容 – 毎週の買い物

みなさんこんにちは。こちらスコットランド出身のジェイミー先生ですよー！

レッスンがなかったり、レッスンの準備をしなくていい時は、スーパーマーケットに行くのが大好きです。今週は、私たちの「毎週の買い物」についてのレッスンをしようと思います。

レッスンでは、みなさんがどこで買い物をするのか、毎週どんなものを買うのかを話します。 “some, any, a lot, many, not many not, much, and none”などの可算名詞と不可算名詞を使います。最後に、スーパーマーケットのそれぞれの種類のコーナーについて話します。

レッスンでお会いできるのを楽しみにしています。

ケンジントン英会話ニュース – 3+5 in August/September / Summer holidays

Hello everyone,

These are the summer holidays for each school

Akasaka school Holidays are : Aug 13th – Aug 17th
Yakuin school holidays are: Aug 15th – Aug 21st
Nishijin school holidays are: Aug 9th – Aug 23rd
Ropponmatsu school holidays are Aug 9th and Aug 12th – Aug 21st

Students that can’t take all 4 of their classes in August, can take 3 in August and 5 in September.
