Travel English – go stir crazy, get off the beaten track

Hello there!

To be perfectly honest we’ve been writing these blogs for a while now and I think we have covered a lot of the expressions we would use in most situations so today I’ll give you a couple of idioms connected to travel instead.

Firstly, “go stir crazy”, which means to feel stressed and uncomfortable when stuck in the same place for too long.

Example: I really need to get my next holiday booked soon, I’m going stir crazy hanging around this city all the time.

Next, “ get off the beaten track”, which means to travel in places that people don’t often visit and not in the usual tourist spots.

Example: My wife and I often do different things when we go on holiday, she likes to spend time shopping and visiting tourist attractions, but I prefer to get off the beaten track.

実を言うとしばらくの間このブログを書いていて、私達は様々な状況で使うであろう表現法をカバーしてきました。ですので今日は代わりに旅行へ行った際に活用できるいくつかの熟語をご紹介します。

まず初めに “go stir crazy”　これは同じ時間に長い時間立ち往生しているとストレスを感じ不快に感じることを意味します。

例えば…私は今すぐでも次の休暇の予約をとらないといけない。私はいつもこの街にいて狂いそうだ。

次に “ get off the beaten track”　これは人気の観光名所ではなくあまり人は訪れない場所で旅行をすることは意味します。

例えば… いつも私の妻は休日出かけるときは別の事をすることが多く、買い物や観光スポットに訪れることに時間を費やします。しかし私はよく知らない道を歩くほうが好きだ。
