日常英会話レッスン – A witch hunt
Since our topic this week at Kensington is Halloween, our very useful Enlgish expression of the week will something related to it. It’s “A witch hunt” and it means “an attempt to find and punish a particular group of people who are being blamed for something, often simply because of their opinions and not because they have actually done anything wrong.”
- Senator Mccarthy led the witch-hunt against alleged communists in the 1950s.

今週のケンジントン英会話のトピックがハロウィンなので、今週の非常に便利な英語表現はそれに関連する事です。「A witch hunt / 魔女狩り」という表現で、「いじめをしている人達の特定のグループを見つけ、罰を与えようとする試み。多くの場合、単に何か悪いことをしたからではなく、彼らの意見が原因となる。」といった意味になります。
例）マッカッシー上院議員は、1950年代に共産主義者に対する魔女狩りを率いた。
