What does “under the weather” mean in English?

Hello everyone,

Are you all enjoying 梅雨? If you don’t know how to say 梅雨 in English please check Jaimie’s blog from last week here.

Now, I’d like to introduce an expression we often use when we are feeling ill or generally unwell. The expressions is “under the weather” and we use it as below

Ex.
T: Hey Jaimie, how are you doing?
J: Hey Tim, I’m a little bit under the weather actually. I have a cough and a headache.
T: I’m very sorry to hear that, shouldn’t you be at home?

さて、今日は具合が悪かったりなんとなく不調のときに私たちがよく使っている表現をご紹介したいと思います。その表現とは “under the weather”で、次のように使います。

【例】
T:　やぁジェイミー、元気？
J:　やぁティム、実はちょっと調子が悪くて。咳がでるし頭痛もするし。
T:　それは良くないね。家にいたほうがいいんじゃない？
