Hello there, how’s your week going? The class subject for this week in most of our classes is “Traveling in Japan”.

We’ll be talking about our traveling experiences in Japan, what we like to do when we travel in Japan, recommend interesting places to visit and what to do there and our  future travel plans in Japan.

Language note: “ When”   What do you like to do when you travel in Japan?

When I travel in Japan, I like to try popular local dishes and enjoy hot spring baths.

“WHEN”in this case is used for making a general statement about something that is usually true or correct.

Hi Everyone,

It’s my favourite season from September onwards – Autumn!

I love Autumn for a number of reasons, but the main one is the quiet, blue skies with the cool wind, especially in the morning. There’s a difference in the air quality in Autumn, and I really enjoy being in quiet places in nature enjoying that.

Of course, there’s Halloween too, which is my favourite seasonal event. I absolutely love it. What’s your favourite thing about Autumn?

Hi Everyone,

This week’s subject is about TV shows. It’s a very practical subject with an emphasis on natural conversation about the TV shows and dramas we watch. 

Some of the things we’ll be doing include:

1. Practice how to ask back and continue the conversation
2. Talk about our TV viewing habits and favourite programs
3. Use some very useful adjectives to describe our favourite programs such as “hilarious, dull, thrilling etc…”

It’s always a great subject to teach this subject so looking forward to seeing you in class!

Careers and Companies

I’ll be honest, I’m not all that great with careers and companies. My main career now is in English teaching, and has been for nearly a decade now. I studied it, wrote about it in a book of mine (it’s on Amazon, too!) and am planning on developing more of my personal things regarding it, but overall I live my life based on my passions for things, which come and go.

English teaching is something I really enjoy, but I also really enjoy teaching philosophy, debating, computing and lots of art. I’m not great with business and business dealings…maybe because I’m too creative!

正直に言うと、私はキャリアや会社に関してはそれほど得意ではありません。
私の主なキャリアは現在、英語を教えることであり、10年近く続いています。

それに関する私の個人的なことをもっと発展させることを計画していますが、全体的には、私は移り変わる物事への情熱に基づいて私の人生を生きています。

Cinema

This week’s subject is one of my favourite ones. It recreates a natural conversation in English at the movies. 

We are going to have a general discussion about cinema, and then we are going to look at a number of film posters and choose which movie we feel like watching. Then we are going to pick the time, the seats and even buy some snacks at the concession stand.

A couple of important points of the class is the use of “looks like” and the use of “kind of”.

It’s a great class so don’t miss it!

このテーマでは、映画館で使われる自然な英会話を再現します。

レッスンでは、映画についての一般的なディスカッションをした後、いくつかの映画のポスターを見て、どの映画を見たいかを選びます。
次に、時間と座席を選び、売店で軽食を購入します。

このレッスンの重要なポイントは、「looks like（〜のように見える）」の使用と「kind of（種類、〜のような）」の使用です。

Possessions

As most of my students already know, I tend to be a bit of a minimalist, so I don’t own so many things. I don’t really spend much money either – most of the time I’m just using the things I already own.

I’d say my most prized possession at the moment is my low D whistle. It’s a long, Irish flute and I’ve been practicing it almost daily, as well as making my own music. I’m a beginner, and playing it smoothly is quite challenging, but I’m enjoying it a lot, and it lets me express my creativity outside of writing and painting. What are your “prized” possessions?
