Fix the lesson time and day

Many times building routines is very useful, especially when one is busy fixing the lesson times and days so you can arrange your schedule around them is a great way to ensure that you both take your classes and also continue improving your English.

My schedule can sometimes get very busy and it’s really totally dependent on student reservations and any other work that pops up. I’m sure that if I hadn’t fixed the days I go to the gym I would never be able to get there. But I have, I go to the gym every Monday and Friday at 16:00 and I won’t change these appointments for almost anything. 

Same for studying Japanese, I will study Japanese from 7am to 7:30 and I will do that almost regardless of how busy I am. Deciding the day/time to take your classes and/or study is super beneficial, please give it a try if you have trouble finding time to study or take your classes!

レッスン日時を固定する事のメリット

多くの時間をルーティン化する事はとても便利です。

特に、忙しい時期にレッスンの日時とその前後のスケジュールを組んでおく事は、レッスンを確実に受講し、英語の上達にも繋げるすばらしい方法です。

生徒さんのご予約やその他の仕事次第で、私のスケジュールはとても忙しくなる事があります。
もしジムに行く日時を先に固定していなかったら、決して行くことはできないでしょう。でも私は毎週月曜と金曜の16時にジムに行く予定を固定していて、ほとんどの場合はその予約を変更する事はありません。
日本語の学習も同様で、どんなに忙しくても大体、午前7時から7時半まで勉強します。

レッスンや勉強の日時を決める事は、とても意義があります。
もしあなたがレッスンを受講する時間を取るのが難しい場合は、ぜひ試してみて下さい。

Talk about myself/my hometown/my country
My trip to Ojikajima

The first few months of the year were especially busy for me so my family and I eagerly awaited our Golden week holidays during which we went to a beautiful island in Nagasaki called Ojikajima. 

We spent 5 days there in a renovated very old traditional Japanese house. The house had been wonderfully renovated to both respect its history but also include all the modern comforts travellers seek nowadays and it was the main attraction of our trip. 

During those five days, I would wake up very early in the morning as I usually do, enjoy a few cups of coffee while reading some of the books I’d brought and then go shopping in the small town nearby and buy groceries for breakfast. I would enjoy cooking for my family and then exploring the island which had a few stunning views.

Ojikajima is a very little known island in Fukuoka and I hope that changes and more people visit there cause it’s certainly worth a visit. As for ourselves, we’ve already booked our next trip there in July!!

小値賀島への旅行

今年のはじめの数ヶ月はとても忙しかったので、私と家族はゴールデンウィークの休暇を本当に待ち望んでいて、長崎にある小値賀島と呼ばれる美しい島を訪れました。

私達はリノベーションしたとても古く伝統的な日本家屋で５日間を過ごしました。
その歴史へのリスペクトと最近の旅行客が求める現代的な快適さを合わせ持つ、美しくリノベーションされたその家が、この旅行の大きな魅力でした。

５日間の間、私はいつも通りとても早く起きて持参した数冊の本を読みながらコーヒーを楽しみ、その後近くの小さな町へ朝食の食材を買い行きました。私は家族の為の料理を楽しみ、それからいくつかの絶景のあるこの島を探検しました。

小値賀島は福岡ではあまり知られていませが、本当に行く価値があるので、もっと多くの人々が訪れてみて欲しいと願っています。
私達はすでに次の7月に予約済みです！

what’s something or someone like

I’d like to introduce you to a very useful expression to use when you want to ask for more information about something. It’s “What’s …. like?”.

For example if you found out that your sister has a new boyfriend you may want to ask
Ex. What’s he like?
And it means “What kind of person is he?”

If you heard that your mother had been to Glastonbury you would probably want to ask
Ex. What was it like?

And it means “How was it? / What happened there”

We can also use this expression in our classes on “Food” this weekend in Kensington.

使いこなそう「what’s something or someone like？」

もっと詳しい情報を知りたい時に使える、とても便利な表現を紹介したいと思います。
それは、“What’s …. like?”.

例えば、あなたのお姉さんや妹に新しい彼氏ができたのを知った時、あなたはきっと質問したくなるでしょう。

例
What’s he like?
これは、「彼はどんなタイプの人なの？」という意味です。

もしあなたの母親がグラントンバリーに行ったことがあれば、あなたはきっと質問したくなるでしょう。
例
What was it like?
これは、「そこはどうでした？や、そこでどんな事がありましたか？」という意味です。

この表現は、週末のケンジントンのレッスン「food」の中でも使えますね。

This week’s subject
Food

This weekend you’ll have the chance to experience history, Kensington history that is. Food is the first Kensington class ever made. I made it about 8 years ago when I was teaching at a company near my house. I had prepared all the material myself which was really hard and stressful work but it resulted in the idea for making classes as we do them in Kensington so it all paid off really well I’d say.

We’ll be talking about typical foods in different countries, different ways of cooking and different tastes, and also how we like food served and paired. Pretty interesting stuff!

今週末、皆さんは歴史、そう「ケンジントンの歴史」を経験する機会があるでしょう。「Food」はケンジントンで今までに作られた中の、1番最初のレッスンなのです。

これは8年前、私が家の近くの英会話スクールで教えていた時に作ったものです。
私はすべての教材を自分自身で用意していましたが、それはとても大変でストレスのたまる仕事でした。
でも結果的に、そのアイデアの中からケンジントンで行うレッスンが生まれたので、全て報われたと思います。

レッスンでは、異なる国々の典型的な食べ物や調理法、味、どの様な組み合わせで提供されるのが好きかなどについて話しましょう。
とても興味深いですね！

What we are doing in Kensington
The hectic times are over (temporarily)

January to the end of April were some seriously busy times in Kensington! We organised our new kids school in JosuiMachi, looked for, interviewed, hired and trained our new staff and we are very glad to report that all the tasks above have been completed successfully.

Our new school is doing very well and is filling up and our new teachers and staff have been almost fully acclimatized to our way of doing things. 

Now it’s time for our next focus, one of the things that we would like to do is know more about how our students think. What would you like us to concentrate more on or improve? Is there anything you think that we could be doing better? If so, please let us know in the classroom to me, Jaimie and Keiko or by line anytime.

We are looking forward to hearing what you think!!

ケンジントンでのできごと
大忙しの期間を(一時的に)終えて

ケンジントンでは、1月から4月末まで、本当に忙しかったです！
新しい浄水町のキッズスクールのオーガナイズや、新しいスタッフの募集、面接と採用と新人スタッフのトレーニング…。そして上記のタスクは完璧に成功したことをご報告できるのを嬉しく思います。

新しい学校はとても上手く行っており満員となっています。
新しい講師とスタッフも私達のやり方に十分に慣れて来ました。

今はまた、次の事に取り掛かる時です。
やりたい事のひとつは、生徒さんの考えをもっと知りたいという事です。
もっと力を入れて欲しい事、改善して欲しい点は何ですか？
私達がより良くなるために、何かできる事があると思いますか？
もしあれば、レッスンやLineで、私やジェイミー、ケイコにいつでも伝えて下さい。
