When does time fly?
While I was preparing for our subject this week, I came across an interesting question. When does time fly? When thinking about longer periods of time across one’s life and cause we only keep the important events and don’t hold memories of every single day we tend to believe that time has gone by too quickly. In fact it probably hasn’t in many cases but that’s how the human mind works I guess. So with that in mind, yes for me too, time has flown, I’m constantly surprised by how tall my daughter has become and look back on the days when she was little and always wanted a hug with sweet nostalgia.
When it comes to specific activities that occupy my day, time flies when I’m working. I really enjoy almost everything I do at work and I find that time goes by so quickly here in Kensington.
One of my favourite activities at work is teaching, especially when my student comes prepared, motivated and tries to speak a lot. In those situations teaching is the most amazing job in the world and the 50 minutes of Kensington lesson time really fly by.
That’s a great contrast to the first years of my teaching career in other English schools where cause of little training and quite frankly bad materials I many times felt that time dragged and the end of lesson time couldn’t come sooner. That’s one thing that all of our teachers say about Kensington, that time never drags when teaching here, it usually flies and hearing that always makes me happy and proud!!

時間はいつ過ぎているのか
今週のサブジェクトを準備している間、興味深い疑問に出くわしました。
一体いつ間に時間が経っているのでしょうか？
人生の長い期間について考える時、重要なイベントだけを記憶し毎日のことは覚えていないので、時間はとても早く過ぎて行ると思う傾向があります。
実際にはおそらくこういったケースは多くないのですが、人間の記憶はこのように働くのだと思います。
それを踏まえると、私の場合も同様で、時間はあっという間に過ぎてしまいます。私は常に娘の背の高さに驚き、小さかった時にはいつも抱っこしてとせがんでいた事を懐かしく思い返すのです。私の1日を占める具体的な活動としては、仕事をしていると時間はあっという間に過ぎて行きます。ここケンジントンで仕事をしている時、殆ど全てのことを本当に楽しんでいるのです。
私が仕事上で大好きな事の一つが、特に生徒さんがしっかり予習をして,やる気を持って沢山話そうとしている時に教える事です。
こういった状況で教える事は世界中でもっとも素晴らしい事で、ケンジントンでの50分間は本当にあっという間です。これは、他の英会話学校で教えていた最初の数年間の経験と比較すると対照的です。そこではトレーニングを殆ど受けず、正直に言うとすごく良くない教材を使っていて、私は何回も、時間がのろのろと進みレッスンの終わるのを長く感じました。
私達の講師は皆ケンジントンで教えている時、時間は決してのろのろと進まず、いつもあっという間だと言います。これを聞くととても幸せで、誇りに思います!!
