英語を勉強する方法。ジェイミー先生が勧める勉強する方法。

Hi everyone.  Today I would like to give you a little personal advice on how to study English. This was my own personal way of studying when I was still learning Japanese and it worked quite well for me so hopefully it does the same for you.

Little by little.

I don’t like waiting for things or people so I always used my time at bus stops, on the train, or even just waiting for students in Tenjin to study. If you do this 2 or 3 times a day it adds up! Study whatever you like, reading, grammar, listening or anything at all but most important is to write every new word down.

Three is the magic number!

After you have written everything down make sure that you memorize every new word perfectly. I did this through the very boring process of covering the English words and saying the Japanese until I got them all right with no mistakes.

Once you have done this write the date at the bottom and then go back and do it 2 more times.

It is a long process and may not be for everyone but if you are busy at work and don’t have much time to study this may be useful for you.

今日は英語を勉強するための私の個人的なアドバイスを少ししたいと思います。

この方法は、私が日本語を勉強していたときの独自の方法で、私にとってはとても良く働いたので、みなさんにとってもそうであることを期待します。

少しずつですね。

私はじっと待つのが好きではないので、バスを待ってる間や電車の中、天神でレッスンをするときの生徒さんがくるまでの時間などを使っていました。

これを１日に２．３回できれば、上達します！

リーディング、文法、リスニングなどあなたが好きなことなんでも勉強してください。でも一番大事なことは、新しい単語をしっかりと書き留めることです。

３は魔法の数字！

全て書き留めたあとは、それらを完璧に覚えたかを確認してください。そして英語を見ながら日本語を隠し、それを日本語で発音しました。私はこの退屈な作業を間違えないようになるまで繰り返しました。全て出来たらノートの下に日付を書いて、あと２回最初から始めます。

とても長い道のりで誰にでも出来る事ではないかもしれませんが、もし仕事が忙しくてそんなに時間がない人には、きっと役立つでしょう。

Travel English – Homestay

 

Hi everyone. Today I would like to introduce a bit of vocabulary from the “Homestay” lesson I made a while ago.

Imagine that you are staying with a foreign family and you need to ask for something in English. What is the best way to ask politely?

First of all if you want to be polite it’s best not to use “I want to….” It’s a little too strong so it’s better to use “ I’d like to…”

For example.

I’d like to check my emails.　メールをチェックしたいのですが  O

I want to check my emails.     メールをチェックしたいのですが  X

Then if you want to ask permission you can use …
Can I, May I, Is it okay if I, Could I….. and then put the 2 sentences together.

 

May I use the computer please? I’d like to check my emails.コンピューターを使っても宜しいですか？メールをチェックしたいのです。

 

Or the other way round.　Both are fine and mean exactly the same thing.

 

I’d like to check my emails. May I use the computer please? メールをチェックしたいのですがコンピューターを使っても宜しいですか

 

There is one more way to ask but it can be a bit confusing we can use the phrase “ Would you mind if I…?” plus the past tense of the verb.

 

Would you mind if I used the computer?　コンピューターを使わせていただいても構いませんか？

 No, not at all.　構いませんよ。

This can be a little difficult at first though because no means yes but once you have mastered it it’s a nice polite way to ask permission.

今日は少し前につくった「ホームステイ」という授業のボキャブラリーからいくつか紹介したいと思います。

あなたが外国人の家族と一緒に暮らし、何か英語で質問することがあると想像してください。どのように尋ねるのが一番丁寧でしょうか？

まず第一に、あなたが丁寧に言いたいとき「I want to…」を使うのは最善ではありません。この言い方は少々強すぎるので「I’d like to…」を使ったほうが良いです。

例えば、

I’d like to check my emails.　メールをチェックしたいのですが  O

I want to check my emails.     メールをチェックしたいのですが  X

そして、許可を求めたいときは以下を使います。

Can I, May I, Is it okay if I, Could I….. そして２つの文を一緒に使います。

May I use the computer please? I’d like to check my emails.　　コンピューターを使っても宜しいですか？メールをチェックしたいのです。

もしくは、逆の言い方。　どちらも正解で、意味は全く同じです。

I’d like to check my emails. May I use the computer please? 　メールをチェックしたいのですがコンピューターを使っても宜しいですか

 

もうひとつ尋ねる方法はありますが、これはすこし困惑するかもしれません。 “ Would you mind if I…?” +動詞の過去形です。

Would you mind if I used the computer?　コンピューターを使わせていただいても構いませんか？

No, not at all.　構いませんよ。

この場合noはyesの意味になるので、最初は少し難しいかもしれませんが、一度習得したら許可を求めるときにはとても丁寧な言い方です。

今日は私が2009年に住んでいた、オーストラリアのメルボルンを紹介します。

テレビでもよく「世界一住みやすい街」と紹介されていますが、本当に素敵な街です♩

メルボルンでは色んな国の人が暮らしているので

アジア人に対してもみんな寛容で、本場のシェフがつくる食べ物はどこのレストランに行ってもだいたい美味しいし、仕事も探しやすかったです。

メルボルンと言えば、「トラム」が有名ですが、

街の中心部を走るこの赤いトラムは、なんと無料！観光名所を各駅停車しながら回ってくれるので、観光にいくときは是非利用してみてください^^

教会や美術館、チャイナタウンやマーケット。

見所が沢山あります。

これからは時期的にも気持ちよくてちょうどいい季節になりますね。

12月頃行って、オーストラリアならではの真夏のクリスマスを楽しむのもおもしろいかもしれません！

Studying English – A very useful English Grammar Book for Beginners

Hello everyone, at Kensington we always include practical Grammar in our lessons. We always pick grammar necessary for natural conversation and we incorporate it in fun, pair conversation or role plays.

Today I’d like to recommend you a useful grammar book you could use as a reference book together with your English studies.

Hello everyone, this weekend at the Akasaka school we’ll be talking about Travelling. Our themed level 2 class is also a travel subject “Giving Directions”.

Here are a few expressions to remember when you are travelling or when a foreign tourist asks you on the street.:

①Where is IMS?

②Could you tell me where IMS is?

③It’s on Watanabe street.

④It’s between Tenjin Core and the Fukuoka Bank.

⑤It’s across from Mitsukoshi.

⑥It’s next to the Fukuoka Bank.

⑦It’s in front of the city hall.

⑧It’s on Watanabe street next to the Fukuoka Bank.
