Hi there everyone, freezing isn’t it!

Today’s lovely business expression is “rock the boat”, which means to cause upset or bother within a group of people.

For example..

I really want to talk to the boss about John, he is always slacking off, trouble is I don’t really want to rock the boat.

Travel English –  Taking the bus (At the Bus Stop)

Hello everyone,　one of the things that I find quite difficult when travelling is taking a bus. Actually when I first came to Fukuoka I avoided taking the bus at all costs. as it was impossible for me to communicate with anyone and I had no idea where each bus was going.

These are some expressions to help you with taking the bus when travelling abroad.

Which bus goes to Tenjin?

How often does bus number 15 come?

When is the next bus to Hakata station?

Does the bus to Canal city stop here?

Where do I catch the bus to Yakuin station?

Is this the bus that goes to Nakasu? (when you see a bus coming)

みなさんこんにちは。旅行をしたときに難しいと感じることのひとつに、「バスに乗る」ことがあります。実は福岡に初めて来たとき、私は是が非でもバスに乗ることを避けていました。誰ともコミュニケーションを取ることができなかったし、どのバスがどこに行くのか見当もつきませんでした。

ここにいくつか、海外旅行でバスに乗るときに使える表現を載せます。

どのバスが天神に行きますか？

15番のバスはどれくらいの頻度で来ますか？

日常英会話レッスン – phrasal verbs   come

 

Hi there everyone, last week in Jaimie’s English study advice blog he advised you to practice phrasal verbs, so I’ve decided to show you a few different phrasal verbs using come!

come up with- have an idea
I couldn’t come up with any new ideas for my presentation, so I asked a friend to help me out.

come along- progress
We put our heads together and now work on the presentation is coming along nicely.

come over- go to someone’s house
I suggested we work at the office, but he said he would rather come over and work at my place.

come down with- catch the cold or flu
Work on the presentation was coming along nicely, but my friend has come down with the flu so we’ve put it on hold.

みなさんこんにちは。先週のジェイミー先生のブログで英語の勉強のアドバイスは句動詞の練習でしたので、comeを使ったちょっと違った句動詞を紹介しようと思います。

come up with- 思い付く
私はプレゼンテーションのための新しいアイデアが思い付かないので、友達に助けを求めました。

come along- 進行する
私たちは一緒に相談しあって、プレゼンテーションの仕事はうまく進行しています。

come over- 誰かの家に行く
私はオフィスで仕事をしようと提案したけど、彼は、むしろ私の家に行って仕事をしたいと言いました。

come down with- 風邪/インフルエンザにかかる
プレゼンテーションの仕事はうまく進行していましたが、友達がインフルエンザにかかってしまったので、仕事を保留にしています。

This weekend as every year this season, we’ll be talking about Valentine’s Day which is actually one of my favourite classes.

Valentine’s day is about love and as so a great chance to talk about things that we love to do in our free time, in different times of the day, in different seasons etc. We’ll also be talking about our favourite romantic things and we’ll chat a little bit about how we usually spend Valentine’s Day.

Remember that Valentine’s Day is a perfect opportunity to buy chocolate for your English teachers!

ケンジントン英会話ニュース – Tonerico Party March 17th

 

Hi there everyone, a big thanks to all of you who came to the Tonerico Cafe party last time, it was a lot of fun and great to see you all using your English so naturally together!

We feel like we didn’t give you enough time to decide at the last party so this time we will let you know well in advance. The next party will be on March 17th from 17:30 to 19:20 and the fee is 2000 yen per person, which includes 2 drinks. After that all drinks will be 500 yen and Tonerico will provide a small menu of snacks.

Please remember that family and friends are all welcome, so if you want to bring someone along please let us know.

みなさんこんにちは！

今年は本当に寒いですね。。

私もインフルエンザは今のところ回避しているものの、先週は風邪で丸2日寝込んでしまいました。

 

毎年体調管理が難しい時期ですが、同時に大好きな温泉を楽しめる時期でもあります＾＾

 

先月は、佐賀の武雄温泉と、熊本の平山温泉に行ってきました！

 

武雄温泉街はすごくこじんまりしていて、まわる場所はそんなにないのですが、

愛媛の道後温泉のような由緒あるノスタルジックな雰囲気もあります。

今回は武雄の旅館に一泊したのですが、ちょうどその日が大雪で、

寒かったですが露天風呂の雰囲気が最高でした♪

 

平山温泉は初めて行ったのですが、「平山のお湯が一番良い」と言われるほど評判のいい温泉地です。

とっても田舎で何もない場所ですが、お湯はヌルっとしていて、しっとりしていて、

髪もサラサラになりましたよ＾＾

 

 

ちなみに、オーストラリアのビクトリア州に、メルボルンから車で1時間半ほどのところにある、「ペニンシュラホットスプリングス」という有名な温泉施設があります。

オーストラリアにも温泉があるんですよ～。

 

メルボルンにいた一年間はお風呂には一度も入らなかったので、友達が連れて行ってくれたんですが、やっぱり水着着用の温泉は日本人としては、、ん～～～なんか違う！笑

 

でもそれはそれで、久しぶりの温泉はとてもいい思い出として今でもその景色が残っています♪

 

周りには宿泊できる場所もあるし、ペニンシュラでは食事もできるので、現地の人たちもよくバケーションで行っているようですよ＾＾

He couldn’t really run a meeting very well so he was eventually replaced as the meeting chair.

How to study English-phrasal verbs

Hi there everyone,

My advice today is after you start feeling confident with the basic grammar and have got your English up to a reasonably comfortable level then to move on to phrasal verbs.

A phrasal verb is a combination of a verb and an adverb like look up ( to search for something in a dictionary) and they often contain a preposition too like look up to ( to admire or respect someone) look down on ( to think someone is inferior to you)

There are literally hundreds of phrasal verbs so it will be difficult to remember them all but if you go online you can easily find lists of the most commonly used ones there are also plenty of English to Japanese phrasal verb dictionaries in bookshops too.

みなさんこんにちは。今日のアドバイスは、基本的な文法を理解するのに自信がついて、英語力がついてきたなと思ったら、句動詞について考えてみようということです。

句動詞は、look up(辞書で何かを調べる)のような動詞と副詞ですが、同時にlook up to（称賛する、誰かを尊敬する）や、 look down on（人を見下す）のように前置詞と並ぶこともよくあります。

句動詞はたっくさんありますので、全て覚えるのは難しいです。でも、ネットで調べてみると簡単に一般的によく使われるリストを見つけることができますし、句動詞が載った英和辞書は本屋さんにたくさんあります。

How long is the layover?

It’s a 3 hour layover in Hong Kong. The entire journey will take 22 hours.
