Shake things up

I really like the expression introduced by Henry last week on his Business English blog. Shaking things up here and then is essential in a business I think. Businesses and the humans in them tend to get used to how things are and tend to usually resist change overtime. I think we usually tend to accept things as they are after a long period of time as doing them is easier than making changes to them and improving them. 

This is obviously a mistake, shaking things up now and then by changing existing processes and making them more efficient or removing them altogether if they don’t seem necessary will have huge benefits down the road as the time and money saved from shaking things up accumulates. 

We love shaking things up now and then in Kensington and this year will be no different!

先週ヘンリーがビジネス英語のブログで紹介した表現「Shake things up（大改造する、変化を取り入れる）」という言葉が本当に好きです。
私が思うに、変化を取り入れることはビジネスにおいて必要不可欠です。
企業とその中の人間は、物事にだんだん慣れていき、変化に抵抗する傾向があります。
変更・改善するよりもやりやすいので、私たちは長い間やってきたことをそのまま受け入れる傾向があると思います。

ですが、これは明らかに間違いです。
既存のプロセスを変更して効率を上げるか、必要がないと思われる場合は完全になくし、仕組みを大改造することでむだな時間とお金がなくなれば、将来的に大きなメリットが得られるはずです。 

ケンジントン英会話は必要とあれば変化を取り入れることが大好きで、それは今年も変わりません！

Study Advice / How to make most of your lessons
Studying English in the pandemic

The pandemic has been terrible for so many things but one thing that we all should be doing is taking advantage of that extra time at home to learn ourselves now skills. I’ve met many students that started their studies during the pandemic or study even harder now that have less things to do. 

I mean, the pandemic has lasted for a good two years now but it’s not going to last forever, borders are soon going to open again, international travel will restart, foreign customers will once again come to your business, you’ll be able to go abroad to study English again soon so taking advantage of this time to improve one of your skills instead of binge watching Netflix sounds like a sensible allocation of time.

Talk about myself/my hometown/my country
My hometown

Today I will talk about my hometown using vocabulary and grammar from our level 2 class “ Talk about your city”.

I grew up in a very peaceful and beautiful suburb of Athens called Dionysos. It’s a very safe and nice place to live. It hasn’t got any shops or restaurants so it’s slightly inconvenient and you really need a car to live there. The cost of living there is rather high and it’s a long commute from where most of the jobs are (in Athens). There usually is a traffic jam in the morning and evening so going to and returning from work may take you a lot of time. There is a lot of nature though so maybe it’s worth it!

私の出身地、私自身～講師の自己紹介
私の故郷

今日は、今週のレッスン「Talk about your city」のLeve2で使う語彙と文法を使って、私の故郷について話したいと思います。(ぜひ英語版を読んで語彙と文法を確認してみてください)

私はディオニソスと呼ばれる、とても平和で美しいアテネの郊外で育ちました。
とても安全で住みやすいところですが、お店やレストランがなく少し不便なので、そこに住むには車が必要です。
生活費はかなり高くなるし、ほとんどの仕事がある場所（アテネ）からの通勤時間は長くなります。
通常、朝と夕方は渋滞が発生するため、通勤や帰宅に時間がかかる場合があります。
自然はたくさんありますけどね。なので、それだけの価値があるはず！

Some of the targets of this class are to learn words to describe places, make simple questions with “be” “have””have got” and use “I think”, “famous for” and “there is/are”

*Currently living in Japan (Preferably in Fukuoka)

Qualifications:
*Speak English at a native level.

Job Details (Full-Time)
*Sundays are mostly off (except for possible seasonal events), working days will be 5 days/week and may include Saturdays.
*Location: Mainly our Kids schools in Yakuin, Hirao and Sakurazaka

Job requirements
*Teach a class of up to 10 kindergarten or Elementary aged kids with a Japanese assistant for our after-school course.
*Teach a class of up to 20 kindergarten-aged children with a Japanese assistant at the kindergarten we partner with.
*Decide, create and implement monthly projects for our students based on our monthly curriculum.
*Create activities and games based on our curriculum.
*Create arts/crafts and interesting scientific activities related to our curriculum.
*Enjoy singing and dancing with children.
*Teach phonics, reading and writing.
*Collaborate with other team members on how to continually improve both curriculum and classes.
*Assign homework / communicate with parents
