How to study English – Use google

Hi everybody my advice for studying English today is very simple and that is to use Google. I used to use a paper dictionary and then an electronic dictionary when I was still studying Japanese it was time consuming and often confusing. The electronic dictionaries nowadays are pretty good but they are expensive and I think becoming obsolete.

Google is as fast as any electronic dictionary and will give a huge number of different examples for any word you look up, if you search for a word on Google images you should even be able to get the idea without looking for the Japanese meaning!

Just one thing I have to warn you of though please scroll down the online dictionaries and use the top ones for the best answers, I find weblio to be particularly useful, but the google translation is often way off the mark or simply too direct.

The great thing about google though is that you can find the answer to even the most difficult of questions if you search long enough, proverbs, natural expressions, slang and all sorts of things are up there and they are often commented upon and improved by other English speakers and learners ,so it is really useful.

Give it a try! I use it all the time for Japanese words and phrases I don’t know.

みなさんこんにちは。今日みなさんへアドバイスしたい勉強法はとてもシンプルで、グーグルを使うということです。

私は日本語の勉強をするときかつて本の辞書を使い、そのあと電子辞書を使っていましたがすごく時間がかかるし、混乱しました。最近の電子辞書はとてもよくできていますが、とても高価ですし、いずれすたれていくものだと思います。

グーグルは電子辞書くらい早く、調べる単語について多くの例文が出てくるので単語をグーグルで検索して写真の欄をクリックすると、日本語の意味を見ずにそれが何なのか理解することができます。

一つだけ注意ですが、オンラインの辞書を下にスクロールして、一番上のものがベストアンサーですのでそれを使ってください。weblioというサイトが一番役立つと思いますが、グーグル翻訳はしばし違ったり直訳すぎることがあります。

グーグルのすごいところは、ことわざ、自然な表現、スラングなどのどんなに難しい質問も時間をかければ答えが見つかるし、英語を話す人や勉強している人などが色んなコメントを書いたりするので、とても役立ちます。
