英語で学校生活について説明する方法
こんにちは、今回はウォーレンです。
今日は、英語で学校生活について話す方法について説明します。
学校の科目について話す
日本と同じように、生徒たちは次のような主要な科目を勉強しています：数学、科学、体育（P.E.）、言語（通常はフランス語/ドイツ語/スペイン語など）
好きな科目や苦手な科目、その学力について、以下の表現を使って話すことができます。
‘My favourite subject is physics’
「私の好きな科目は物理です」（複数ある場合は ‘my favourite subjects are…’に変えてください。）
’I hate German class’
「ドイツ語の授業が嫌いです」
‘I’m (not) good at maths’
「数学は得意です（得意ではありません）」（アメリカ英語では「math」を使用します）
もちろん、子供の頃の話をする場合は、動詞を過去形に変更する必要があります。
学校の時間割
学校によって、1日あたり5つから6つの授業があります。（各授業時間は「period⁼期間」とも呼ばれます。）
‘Ugh, two back-to-back periods of maths on a monday morning is absolutely gruelling’
「月曜の朝に連続2時間の数学は本当に辛いです」
‘The 3 periods in the morning feel long, but after lunch, there are only 2 periods, so the time flies’
「朝の3時間は長く感じますが、昼食後は2時間だけなので、時間があっという間に過ぎます。」
‘School starts at 9.00, but I like to get there early and have breakfast at the canteen’
「学校は9時開始ですが、私は早めに着いて食堂で朝食を食べるのが好きです。」
クラブ活動やその他の放課後活動
日本人はよく ‘I belong to…’と言いますが、英語では ‘I’m in the chess club’. 「私はチェスクラブに所属しています」 ‘I’m in the brass band’「私はブラスバンドに所属しています」 のように’I’m in the….’ と言う方が自然です。
‘I practiced rugby every Tuesday and Thursday after school’
「私は毎週火曜日と木曜日の放課後にラグビーを練習していました。」
‘I’m in the chess club; we meet once a week on Fridays’
「私はチェスクラブに所属しています。私たちは毎週金曜日に集まっています。」
制服
日本と同様、小学校の児童は通常、制服を着用する必要はありません。
一方、多くの日本の生徒は中学校と高校では制服の着用が義務付けられていますが、イギリスやアメリカなどの国では学校によって異なります。
私がその年齢だった頃、制服はありませんでしたが、服装規定がありました：暗い色、シンプルなデザイン（ロゴや模様などなし）、ジーンズは禁止。
私の高校では、好きな服装を着ることができ、大体の高校生はそうです。
文化的なメモ
イギリスでは、小学校は5歳から11歳までです。（小学校はelementary school やprimary schoolとも言われます。）
中学校は11歳から16歳までです。（中学校はjunior highやsecondary schoolと言われます。）
高校はイギリスでは「6th form / シックス・フォーム」と呼ばれ、16歳から18歳までです。
イギリスでは野球は全く人気がありませんが、小学校と中学校の生徒は、暖かい季節に体育の授業で「ラウンドアーズ」というゲームをよくします。これは野球と非常に似ています。主な違いはバットがずっと短く、片手で握る点と、ダイヤモンドが小さい点です。プロリーグはなく、高校に入学すると誰もプレイしなくなります。
中学校と高校は、時々「カレッジ」とも呼ばれます。
学校は月曜日から金曜日までで、週末には授業や部活動は行われません。
生徒は放課後の部活動への参加が義務付けられていません。興味があれば自由に選ぶことができます。
直接関係はありませんが、アジア以外では「塾」は存在しません。

How to Explain Your School Life in English
Hello, Warren here once again.
Today, I’m going to explain how to talk about your school life in English.
Talking About School Subjects
Just like Japan, schoolchildren study a core range of classes, including: Maths, Science, P.E. (physical education), a language (usually French / German / Spanish, etc.)
You can talk about the subjects you (don’t) enjoy, and your ability with the following expressions –
‘My favourite subject is physics’ (for more than one, change to ‘my favourite subjects are…’)
’I hate German class’
‘I’m (not) good at maths’ (‘math’ in U.S. English)
Of course, you’ll need to change the verbs to past simple if you’re talking about your childhood.
The school schedule
Depending on the school, there may be 5 or 6 lessons per day (each class time can also be called a period)

Clubs and other after school activities
Japanese people often say ‘I belong to…’ but in English, it’s more natural to say I’m in the….’
E.g. ‘I’m in the chess club’. ‘I’m in the brass band’. With sports, we tend to say ‘I practice… after school’
‘I practiced rugby every Tuesday and Thursday after school’
‘I’m in the chess club; we meet once a week on Fridays’
Uniforms
Like Japan, children at elementary school are not usually required to wear a uniform.
While all Japanese students have to wear a uniform for junior high school and high school, in countries like the UK or the USA, it depends on the school.
When I was that age, there wasn’t a uniform, but there was a dress code: dark colours, plain design (no logos, patterns, etc.), and no jeans.
At my high school, we could wear whatever we wanted, and this is generally true for students of high school age.
Cultural notes
In the UK, elementary school (sometimes called ‘primary school’) is from ages 5-11
Junior high (sometimes called ‘secondary school’) is from ages 11-16.
High school, known as 6th form in the UK, is 16-18.
Although baseball has zero popularity in the UK, elementary and junior high students often play a game called ‘rounders’ in the warmer months in their PE class, which is extremely similar to baseball. The main differences are that the bat is much shorter and held with only one hand, and the diamond is smaller. There is no professional league, and no one plays it after beginning high school.
Junior high, and high schools are also sometimes called a ‘college’.
School is from Mon-Fri only, no lessons or clubs are held on the weekend.
Students are not required to attend after school clubs. They are free to choose (if they have an interest in it).
Not strictly related, but ‘cram schools’ don’t exist outside of Asia.
