今日は少し違ったテーマについてお話ししたいと思います。それは、英語で受ける医療系試験の準備についてです。
医療に関する知識は十分にあっても、母国語でないとなるとまったく別の話になることがあります。試験で本当に難しいのは、質問の内容を正しく理解すること、自分の知識を相手にわかりやすく伝えること、そして、まだ学習中の言語でも自信を持ってコミュニケーションを取ることかもしれません。
実は私自身も、ドイツの医師国家試験の一つである「Kenntnisprüfung（知識認定試験）」の準備のためにドイツ語を勉強し始めたとき、まさに同じような状況を経験しました。（ちなみに、このドイツ語の名前は覚えなくても大丈夫です😂）
最初はかなり大変に感じました。というのも、普段使い慣れていない言語で、自分の医学知識をしっかりと伝えなければならなかったからです。
この経験を通して、外国語で医療系の試験を受ける準備をしている医療従事者が、どのような気持ちになるのかを少し理解できるようになりました。

とはいえ、現在の私にとって、医学のバックグラウンドと英語を教えてきた経験の組み合わせは、とても役立っています。
医療分野で使われる言葉を理解しているだけでなく、それを英語でわかりやすく教えることもできるからです。
どのように試験対策をサポートできる？

試験直前まで待つ必要はありません！
今はまだOETやその他の医療系試験を受ける予定がない方もいるかもしれません。でも、将来的に受験を考えているのであれば、試験直前まで準備を待つ必要はありません。

When Knowing Medicine Isn’t Enough
Hello everyone, and welcome back.
Today, let’s talk about something a little different: preparing for a medical examination in English. Sometimes, you may know the medicine, but the language can be a completely different story. The real challenge may be understanding the questions, explaining what you know and communicating confidently in a language you are still learning.
I actually found myself in this situation when I started learning German to prepare for the German medical exam called the Kenntnisprüfung (don’t worry, you don’t have to learn that word 😂). At first, it felt quite daunting because I was preparing to demonstrate my medical knowledge in a language I wasn’t used to using.
That experience helped me understand how healthcare professionals can feel when preparing for an examination in another language. For those facing a similar challenge in English, Kensington now offers medical test preparation lessons, including preparation for OET.
